Entrance Scholarship for BA-CHI Year 1 Local Students

1. Objective

To recognize Year 1 local students, newly admitted to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Chinese (BA-CHI) programme at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) starting from the academic year 2026/27, who achieved merit academic results in senior secondary level public examinations in their year of admission.

2. Name of the Scholarship

3. Provision of the Scholarship

• There shall be a maximum of ten scholarships of HK$15,000 each in an academic year.
• The scholarship shall be paid in two instalments as follows:


– HK$10,000, first instalment in the first year of study; and
– HK$5,000, last instalment in the second year of study.


• The last instalment of the scholarship is contingent upon the student achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in the first year of study. Failing to meet the GPA requirement for the first year of study will disqualify the student from receiving the last instalment of the scholarship.
• The scholarship shall be disbursed in Semester 2 upon students’ settlement of all tuition fees for the academic year. Recipient must be an active student by the time of scholarship disbursement.

4. Eligibility and Criteria

• Full-time undergraduate local Year 1 student newly admitted to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Chinese programme in the academic year;
• Attained 332A2 in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), or equivalent, and fulfilled the minimum entrance requirement of both the Programme and the University;
• Achieved a minimum HKDSE Best 5 score of 15 or above (or equivalent);
• Only students admitted to the University, in Semester 1 with current year admission results are eligible;
• Academic results of combined HKDSE certificates will not be considered;
• Students will be considered for any entrance scholarship only once during their study at the University. Any student who is transferred/re-admitted to the same or another programme for whatever reasons will not be considered for any entrance scholarship;
• Special cases will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Programme Committee of the BA-CHI; and
• The selection will be based on HKDSE academic results, admission interview performance, and overall merit.

5. Nomination/ Application Procedure

• Eligible students will be selected and nominated by the Programme Committee of BA-CHI for endorsement by the Department Head and School Dean, and approval by the University’s Scholarship and Financial Assistance Committee.
• Applicants should make themselves aware of the “Guiding Principles for Scholarships/Award and Financial Assistance Schemes” as stipulated by the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Committee.

6. Conditions of Scholarship

• Distribution of the scholarship is subject to availability of fund.
• Recipients of the scholarship are required to attend functions related to the scholarship organized by the Donor and/or the HSUHK.
• Recipients shall abide by any other conditions laid down by the HSUHK.
• Recipients of scholarship must be an active student by the time of scholarship application, selection and disbursement. Any student who is withdrawn from/deregistered with the HSUHK/has his/her student status deactivated, even if having a good academic standing in the previous academic year, will not be considered.
• The HSUHK reserves the right to withhold disbursement or to request the recipient to reimburse the scholarship if the recipient’s conduct is deemed unsatisfactory or he/she is not an active student due to outstanding fees or payments.
