Entrance Scholarship for BSocSc-PPE Year 1 Local Students

1. Objective

To recognise Year 1 students, newly admitted to Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (BSocSc-PPE) programme of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) starting from the academic year 2026/27, who achieved excellent academic results in senior secondary level public examinations in their year of admisison.

2. Name of the Scholarship

3. Provision of the Scholarship

• There shall be a maximum of five scholarships of HK$30,000 each in an academic year.

• The scholarship shall be paid in two instalments as follows:

– HK$15,000, first instalment in the first year of study; and
– HK$15,000, last instalment in the second year of study.

• The last instalment of the scholarship is contingent upon the student achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in the first year of study. Failing to meet the GPA requirement for the first year of study will disqualify the student from receiving the last instalment of the scholarship.

• The scholarship shall be disbursed in Semester 2 upon students’ settlement of all tuition fees for the academic year. Recipient must be an active student by the time of scholarship disbursement.

4. Eligibility & Criteria

• Full-time undergraduate Year 1 local student newly admitted to the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics programme in the academic year;
• Attained 332A2 in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, or equivalent, meeting the minimum admission requirement in the year of admission;
• Achieved a minimum HKDSE Best 5 score of 15 or above (or equivalent);
• Only students admitted to the University in Semester 1 with current year admission results are eligible;
• Academic results of combined HKDSE certificates will not be considered;
• Students will be considered for any entrance scholarship only once during their study at the University. Any student who is transferred/re-admitted to the same or another programme for whatever reasons will not be considered for any entrance scholarship;
• Special cases will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Programme Committee of BSocSc-PPE; and
• A written test and group interview will be conducted to select awardees.

5. Nomination/ Application/ Selection Procedure

• Eligible students will be selected and nominated by the programme office of the BSocSc-PPE programme for endorsement by the Department Head and School Dean, and approval by the University’s Scholarship and Financial Assistance Committee.
• Students should make themselves aware of the “Guiding Principles for Scholarship/ Award and Financial Assistance Schemes” as stipulated by the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Committee before submitting an application.

6. Conditions of Scholarship

• Distribution of the scholarship is subject to availability of fund.
• Recipients of the scholarship are required to attend functions related to the scholarship organized by the Donor and/or the HSUHK.
• Recipients shall abide by any other conditions laid down by the HSUHK.
• Recipient of scholarship must be an active student by the time of scholarship application, selection and disbursement. Any student who is withdrawn from/deregistered with the HSUHK/has his/her student status deactivated, even if having been in good academic standing in the previous academic year, will not be considered.
• The HSUHK reserves the right to withhold disbursement or to request the recipient to reimburse the scholarship if the recipient’s conduct is deemed unsatisfactory or he/she is not an active student or has outstanding fees or payments.
